The Baltimore Women’s Classic 5k is my favorite 5k. There’s something really special about an all women’s race, the energy is unlike anything else I’ve experienced. You can really feel the sense of community and camaraderie at this race from start to finish, which is what I cherish about the most when racing. The historical impact of this event is palpable as it is the second oldest all women’s running event in the USA. Plus, its a fun treat to get a cold towel and rose handed to you so the end of a mid summer race.
The course takes you through scenic parts of downtown inner harbor and is mostly flat which makes for a nice race course. With the weather being hot typically, it’s not necessarily a time PR course, but sets the stage for a PR in fun and joy. Last year I was 4th finisher so this year I had one main goal: make it on the podium. I settled into 3rd in the first mile and then surprised myself a bit by passing the second place women at mile 2 and holding on to that lead till the finish. I loved getting to representing Charm City Run coaching in the top 3 at this special race.
The training group for this race was amazing, we get some of our biggest training groups for this race. It was a great day to share with coaching clients and fellow coaches to celebrate women runners and walkers.
